Spurs X Manchester City 'LINK'

"The key was the capacity to suffer when City has the ball. We know when we play against this team we have to suffer because they have the ball a lot but we moved well in the defensive situation and defended the goal in a brilliant way.

Spurs x Manchester City

11:52am ET: YELLOW CARD, TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR. Man City right back at it, but Spurs take the ball back and Kane wins a free kick just inside the circle. City takes the ball back and Jack Grealish and Rico Lewis are bringing electricity to the center of the park. Lewis is chopped down by Rodrigo Betancur, who sees a yellow card for his petulance.

  • The Premier League season finishes matchday one with Tottenham Hotspur hosting defending champions Manchester City in north London, so what can we expect?\u00a0\nAfter a summer much too short for many international players and much too long for many fans Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City square off to kick off their respective seasons and end matchday one in the Premier League. With several big names potentially missing out on the match, who is in, who is out, and what can we expect when City comes to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium?\nWill Kane play or not?\nThe biggest storyline heading into the match is clearly the Harry Kane to Manchester City transfer story. Ever since Kane interviewed a golf course near the conclusion of last season, a transfer has seemed almost inevitable. However, we are not less than three weeks away from the deadline and City has only put in one official bid for Kane, which came before the Euros and the Jack Grealish signing.\nWe know for certain Kane will not be part of the City team on Sunday, the unknown is whether or not Kane will play for Spurs. Having only participated in two practices after quarantining at the Tottenham Lodge it seems unlikely that Kane would start. However, with the expanded nine-man bench for this season, it is conceivable Kane is there as a late-game substitute.\nAs a Spurs fan, Kane coming on in the second half really is the best-case scenario. Kane is likely not fit enough to go 90 minutes but needs to play. If Harry does not play, the speculation will only grow louder. A few good minutes from Kane will go a long way toward repairing things with the Spurs faithful.\nOf course, Kane is not the only big name who may be out, so who else is out?\n\n \n Next:\u00a0Is the time ripe to beat Manchester City?\n \n"},"title":"Premier League Preview: Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City","permalink":"https:\/\/hotspurhq.com\/2021\/08\/15\/tottenham-manchester-city-premier-league-preview\/2\/","shortCodeTitle":null,"content":"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tLONDON, ENGLAND \u2013 FEBRUARY 02: Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City and Heung-Min Son of Tottenham Hotspur (Photo by Laurence Griffiths\/Getty Images)\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\nIs the time ripe to beat Manchester City?\nEven if Kane does miss the match for Tottenham, they still are likely down fewer stars than will be Manchester City. It has been reported that both Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden will be absent from the team on Sunday as they recover from injuries. The Sky Blues are still a formidable attacking force without the two superstars but Spurs are not likely to complain if both do really miss out.\nThe\u00a0 Cityzens may be down more players, as several others including Gabriel Jesus, Ederson, Kyle Walker, and John Stones only recently returned to practice following their own extended breaks. Factor in players like Ayermic Laporte and Bernardo Silva reportedly wanting out of the Etihad and maybe now is the time to beat City. However, they have been great on opening day for a while.\nPep Guardiola is undefeated on opening day\nManchester City manager Pep Guardiola has won all five of his opening day matches in the Premier League. This is actually quite remarkable until you realize that City has actually won 10 straight games on opening day.\nThe opening day winning streak s so good, that if City beats Spurs they will set a record for the most consecutive wins on opening day in top-flight history. Currently, the Sky Blues are tied with Aston Villa (1891\/92-1900\/01) with the 10 straight opening day wins.\nTottenham have a little streak of their own\nYes, the Spurs lost to Everton on opening day last season, however, Tottenham have won their last two at home against Manchester City in the Premier League. That streak for the Lilywhites is actually three straight at home in all competitions, winning 1-0 in the Champions League back in 2019.\nThe key in these wins has been sound defense from the Spurs. In those three wins, Tottenham outscored City 5-0. If they can manage a clean sheet at worst they are getting a point and more likely than not they are winning, especially if Nathan Ake is again in the middle of the City defense.\nSon the Spur to watch vs City\nWhile many eyes and likely camera lenses will be on Harry Kane, it is Heung-Min Son who everyone \u2013 especially the City defense \u2013 needs to watch for. Son has scored six goals in all competitions against Manchester City and always seems to come up with the good at home in particular.\nAfter signing a new contract this summer and likely working to carry the mantle of best player if\/when Kane leaves, Son is going to do everything he can to shine on Sunday. The reality is, that absent Kyle Walker, City lacks the pace to stay with Son over the top.\nExpect a lot of long balls and through balls intermixed in the Tottenham possession. It only takes one to get behind and if you try enough, eventually one will break. If Lucas Moura can get away from Rodri and find space in the middle, City can be had defensively and this can be a game.\nMoura was one of the bright spots in the preseason for Tottenham and his playmaking needs to continue for the Spurs to be successful. If Moura cannot find room and Son cannot get behind, it may be a long after for the Tottenham faithful. However, our belief is Lucas and Son will carry the day and Spurs break the City opening day streak.\n\n \n \n Next:\u00a0Report: Spurs players feel fit, sharp\n \n \n"],"useSlideSources":true,"themeType":"classic","prevPost":"https:\/\/hotspurhq.com\/2021\/08\/14\/analytics-tottenham-hotspur-outside-top-four\/","nextPost":"https:\/\/hotspurhq.com\/2021\/08\/15\/good-start-santo-tottenham\/","prevText":"Prev","nextText":"Next","buttonWidth":0,"buttonWidth_post":0,"postUrl":"https:\/\/hotspurhq.com\/2021\/08\/15\/tottenham-manchester-city-premier-league-preview\/","postId":80694,"refreshAds":true,"refreshAdsEveryNSlides":1,"adRefreshingMechanism":"javascript","siteUrl":"https:\/\/hotspurhq.com","prevText_post":"Prev post","nextText_post":"Next post"};(function ($) $(document).ready(function () try tpsInstance = new tps.createSlideshow(tpsOptions); catch(e) );(jQuery)); (function () // create the elements and set all attributes:var conversationScript = document.createElement('script');conversationScript.setAttribute('async', 'true');conversationScript.setAttribute('src', ' _zOp2zsfb');conversationScript.setAttribute('data-spotim-module', 'spotim-launcher');conversationScript.setAttribute('data-post-url', ' -manchester-city-premier-league-preview/');conversationScript.setAttribute('data-post-id', '006bc25af2919b7cca635a149353458e');conversationScript.setAttribute('data-spotim-multi-instance', true);conversationScript.setAttribute('data-article-tags', 'Tottenham FC, Tottenham Hotspur');conversationScript.setAttribute('data-disqus-url', ' -manchester-city-premier-league-preview/#!');conversationScript.setAttribute('data-disqus-identifier', '80694 =80694');// append the elements to the container:var container = document.querySelector('#comments-wrapper-80694');container.appendChild(conversationScript);)(); Top StoriesHotspur HQ 1 yearFive keys to Tottenham Hotspur beating Manchester City in EPL opener

For City it was a severe blow. It was also a warning sign. Only a fool would write them off, given their capacity to overwhelm any opponent. But suddenly they look like a team in transition. With Joao Cancelo leaving it means that five of the players who featured in the final-day drama of winning the title against Aston Villa have now gone, leaving Pep Guardiola to juggle permutations, line-ups and formations. 041b061a72
